The Korean Association of Internal Medicine (KAIM) always acts to protect its member's personal information and complies with laws and regulations regarding personal information and promotion of information and communications network utilization.
KAIM developed this Privacy Policy to disclose how it uses members’ personal information for legitimate purposes and how it exerts its efforts to keep their personal information secure.

1. Collection and intended use of personal information
KAIM collects personal information from its members to provide optimal services customized to needs of its members via KAIM website. Based on collected personal information, KAIM can provide more useful information to its members on a selective basis. KAIM collects minimum personal information (name, email and telephone number) as mandatory items to provide customized information, add new services, improve services and edit manuscripts for its journal. KAIM does not collect, use and analyze personal information for any purposes, other than as originally intended. However, KAIM can collect, use or analyze personal information in a certain format where individual identity cannot be inferred or determined while carrying out statistical analysis or market research.
KAIM does not disclose or distribute personal information about its members to third parties, except as permitted by members. However, KAIM can provide personal information without consent from members when legally required to do so by the law such as the Telecommunications Business Act, by public authorities such as the Korea Internet Safety Commission and by procedures set by other regulation and when personal information is disclosed in compliance with this Privacy Policy. KAIM is not responsible for personal information disclosed by members themselves.
2. Personal information items to be collected and methods of collection
KAIM collects the following information when members sign up for membership: Member's ID, password, name, affiliation, Department, Address, City/State, Country, Telephone, Fax, Cellular Phone, etc.
KAIM however does not collect any information that may possibly infringe basic right to privacy: race, ethnicity, ideology, credo, place of birth, political opinions or criminal records.

3. Sharing and providing collected personal information
KAIM shall never disclose members' personal information to third parties except in the following circumstances: if members agreed to disclose; if there is a good reason for disclosure to bring a lawsuit against a person who violates the standard form contract of KAIM, causes any damage to others using KAIM's services or commits any anti-social behavior. Even in exceptional cases, personal information shall be provided to public authorities according to the procedures defined in regulations, not individuals.
KAIM may share personal information of its members with business partners in order to offer better services on the basis of members' consent. To obtain members' consent, KAIM shall disclose information on the respective business partners, the reasons why personal information is required and how personal information will be protected and managed by the business partners. If members do not agree to these terms, KAIM will not collect additional information from its members or share any personal information with business partners.
4. Regarding the installation, operation and refusal of automatic data collection tools
KAIM operates "cookies" to save and find the information of members, which is necessary to provide personalized and customized services. A cookie is a small text message sent by the server operating the website to the browser of members and is saved on hard disk of members.
① Purpose of use of cookies
- The main purpose of a cookie is to identify users’ access frequency, visited time, number of visits for target marketing and customized service.
② Refusal of cookie settings
Users have a choice with regard to cookie installation. Users can permit cookies and check whenever a cookie is saved, or refuse cookies by setting the option in the web browser.
* Example of setting the option (in Internet Explore): Tool in the upper part of the web browser > Internet options > personal information. When you refuse cookie installation, the use of services requiring login may be difficult.
5. Regarding access and modification of personal information and withdrawal of consent
Members have the right to access and modify their personal information entered into KAIM website any time via the Edit My Account section on the KJIM e-submission screen.
6. Retention and destruction of personal information
KAIM possesses members' personal information and utilizes them to provide services while you use membership services of KAIM as a member. When you request to terminate the membership, KAIM will destroy you information without delay.

- Personal information saved in electronic file formats will be destroyed in a way that makes electronic records irrecoverable.
7. Consignment of personal information
1) KAIM consigns the handling of personal information to the third parties shown below to provide safe services.
Outsourced company: M2Comm Co Ltd.
Consigned work: Development and maintenance of homepage system
information supply: collected information about members
Retention and utilization period: until the consignment agreement is terminated.
2) The consignment agreement contains all the provisions required to keep personal information secure: compliance with guidelines for personal information protection, confidentiality of information, prohibition on disclosure to third parties, liability in the event of accident, consignment period and specific conditions for return and destruction of information after the consignment is terminated. The agreement is filed in writing, either on paper or electronically.
3) Members will be notified of any changes in consigned operation using one or more methods from emails, telephone, SMS or other notifications.
8. Technical and managerial measures for personal information protection
KAIM employs firewalls and intrusion detection systems to stop an unauthorized access to information and malicious intent and to protect personal information.
However, members' information can be accessed using member's ID and password. You are therefore responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your user ID and password. You must log out after using KAIM service. Keeping your user ID and password secure and a correct logout are especially important in public places such as cafes and public libraries.
KAIM minimizes the number of employees treating personal information and train them to comply with the provisions incorporated herein. If employee non-compliance with this Privacy Policy happens, KAIM will take corrective action immediately.

10. Safety measures to keep personal information protected
KAIM implements technical, administrative and physical safeguards against loss, thief, disclosure, modification and corruption of personal information.
1) Personal information is encrypted during storage and maintenance.
2) Protective measures against hacking
- KAIM makes every effort to prevent any leakage or corruption of members' personal information that may be caused by hacking or computer viruses.
- To prevent any leakage and damage of personal information, KAIM stores backup data frequently and uses the latest antivirus and anti-spyware protection. The measures designed to encrypt data also enables personal information to be safely transmitted on the networks.
- Firewall programs, along with other technical supports, are installed to protect information systems from unauthorized access.
3) Training of responsible personnel
- The employees who are assigned to personal information management are required to change of their specially devised passwords regularly and receive training to handle personal information in a safe manner.
- When an employee turnover occurs in personal information management, knowledge required to perform the required task will be transferred to a new worker in a secure and confidential manner. Related employees are clearly informed of their responsibility for negative consequences that may result from their mishandling of personal information. They will be held responsible even after resigning KAIM.
- The access to the data processing department and physical locations where data are stored are strictly controlled.
- If employee non-compliance with this Privacy Policy happens, KAIM will take corrective action immediately. KAIM cannot be responsible for any damage resulting from personal information disclosed due to members' own carelessness and problems on the Internet.
11. Notification of changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy was established on September 30, 2011. When any addition, deletion and modification to the policy is required due to legal amendments, changes in government and KAIM policies and advance in safeguard technology, KAIM will notify its members of any revision made to this policy at least 7 days in advance via the website.
KAIM will obtain members' consent if it needs to provide members' personal information to third parties and if there is any change in intended use of collected information and retention period.
